Bidding in local electricity markets with cascading wholesale market integration

چکیده

Local electricity markets are a promising idea to foster the efficiency and use of renewable energy at distribution level. However, as such new concept, how these local will be designed integrated into existing market structures, make most profit from them, is still unclear. In this work, we propose mechanism in which end-users (consumers, small producers, prosumers) trade between peers. Due possible low liquidity market, assumes that fulfill their demands through bilateral contracts with an aggregator/retailer access wholesale market. The allowed bids offers bounded by feed-in tariff aggregator guaranteeing get, most, expected cost without considering problem modeled multi-leader single-follower bi-level optimization problem, upper levels define maximization agent profits. contrast, lower level maximizes traded complexity matter, lack perfect information end-users, advocate evolutionary computation, branch artificial intelligence has been successfully applied wide variety problems. Throughout three different case studies distinct characteristics, evaluated performance four algorithms assessed benefits can bring participants. Results show proposed provides overall costs improvements players around 30–40% regarding baseline where no considered. shift procurement affect conventional retailer/aggregator role. Therefore, innovative business models should devised for successful implementation future.

Predicting market power in wholesale electricity markets

The traditional measure of market power is the HHI, which gives implausible results given the low elasticity of demand in electricity spot markets, unless it is adapted to take account of contracting. In its place the Residual Supply Index has been proposed as a more suitable index to measure potential market power in electricity markets, notably in California and more recently in the EU Sector...

Testing for Market Efficiency with Transactions Costs: An Application to Convergence Bidding in Wholesale Electricity Markets

With risk neutral traders and zero transactions costs, the expected value of the difference between the current forward price and the spot price of a commodity at the delivery date of the forward contract should be zero. Accounting for the transactions costs associated with trading in these two markets invalidates this result. We develop statistical tests of the null hypothesis that profitable ...

Effects of LAs’ Strategic Bidding on Wholesale Electricity Market Equilibrium

This paper proposes a game-theoretic framework for quantifying effects of strategic bidding behavior of load aggregators (LAs) on wholesale electricity market equilibrium. The independent system operator (ISO) employs double-sided auction design to settle transactions in the wholesale electricity market. Generating companies (GENCOs) and LAs submit their bids to the ISO in the economic model of...

Understanding Competitive Pricing and Market Power in Wholesale Electricity Markets

In the ̄rst year of the deregulated California electricity market, a number of issues have arisen that relate to the competitiveness of the wholesale electricity market in the state. There have been lively debates over the need for price caps in the California Power Exchange (PX) day-ahead market and the California Independent System Operator's (ISO) real-time and ancillary services markets. The...

Equilibrium in Wholesale Electricity Markets

We develop game theoretic models to evaluate strategic behavior in deregulated electricity markets, with particular attention given to the market rules in place in California through the summer of 2000. We prove existence of a Nash equilibrium under two particular sets of market rules used by the CALPX and CAISO respectively. Next we derive a lower bound (strictly above marginal cost) on averag...
